Accessibility at the SCHS

Wheelchair Access

The History Center and Orphanage Museum (including Cottage 11) are all wheelchair accessible. To access the main Orphanage Museum exhibit space, please enter through the accessible entrance to the left of the main entrance steps.

The Village of Yesteryear's 19 historic structures are mostly wheelchair inaccessible. Accessible buildings include: the Print Shop, Carriage House, Museum of Professions, Fire Hall, and Farm Machinery Building.

Family Access

The History Center and Orphanage Museum provide family-friendly restrooms with changing tables and family rooms for use by multiple individuals.

Our tours and exhibits are family-friendly and accessible for all ages. If you have any questions about content or would like to learn more about what is on display, please contact us.

Language Accessibility

The History Center offers the use of portable translation units at no charge. These units are available at our front desk, along with instructions for use. They are currently programmed with 82 language, with many providing audio translation support. 

Languages supported include: Spanish, French, German, Arabic, Somali, Chinese, Japanese, and Hmong.

​

These translation units provide instant translation of both conversation as well as written text.
