What to Expect
Because of the nature of the Steele County Historical Society materials, certain registration procedures and regulations apply to keep our collection safe and available for future use. Here are a few things you should expect when arriving at SCHS to do research:
The Zamboni Genealogy and Research Lab is open Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday - 10:00 am to 4:00 pm, and Thursday - 10:00 am to 8:00 pm, and Saturday, 10:00 am to 3:00 pm.
Research access is free for SCHS members and $5 for non-members. If you are planning a visit, please call ahead (507-451-1420) and make an appointment so that we can best serve you. Research is $10 per hour, with half an hour minimum charge for all research.
On your first visit to the Genealogy and Archives Research Lab, you will be asked to fill out a registration card. Please bring a driver’s license or other form of photo identification. You may be asked to update your registration information each year. Members do not need to complete the registration.
Pencils, laptop computers, digital cameras, and loose papers may be brought into the Genealogy and Archives Research Lab. A coat rack is available for all of your other belongings. Computers, pencils and paper are provided for use.
