History Week

October 22, 2018

Steele County Historical Society preserves Steele County's past, shares our county's stories and connects people with history in meaningful ways, for today and for tomorrow. Because history matters!

Established in 1949 to preserve the history of Steele County, we have grown to become one of the largest and most prestigious historical societies in the State. We play an important role in historic preservation, education and tourism; and provide the public with educational award-winning programs, exhibitions and events. As a privately funded organization, none of this would be possible without your support.

On November 5, SCHS will commence History Week in celebration of all that has been accomplished in 2018 and kick-off our 2019 fundraising campaign. The week will be filled with a variety of programs and events introducing guests to all aspects of the Society.

Beginning on Monday, November 5, from 10:00 to 11:30 AM members and non-members are invited to join the staff for First Monday Coffee and a Behind the Ropes look at the History Center.  Guests will get a rare glimpse into Archives and the exhibit prep area.

Tuesday, November 6 at 10:00 AM, we invite the public to join us, at no charge, for SCHS Genealogy Club.  The club promotes interest and proficiency in genealogical research on the first Tuesday of each month.

The SCHS Annual Meeting will be held on Thursday, November 8. We will begin with a light lunch and annual business meeting followed by a Fund-a-Need event.  Members are invited to attend the luncheon at no charge, the meeting and Fund-a-Need are open to all community members at no charge. Reservations are required for lunch.

Join us Friday, November 9, for Pasta with a Purpose dinner featuring a pasta bar, salad, fresh bread and beverages.  This is a ticketed event, with tickets available at the Steele County History Center.

We will end our week long celebration with Pancakes and PJs on November 10 at Applebee’s in Owatonna.  This is a ticketed event, with tickets available at the Steele County History Center.

We owe it to future generations to be good stewards of the past. Join us in ensuring our rich traditions carry forward. We have the best deal in history!
